The Beehive Trail - October 2017
Summary
The beehive trail is a short trail that is a very vertical climb. It is called a via ferrata route, because there are parts where assisted climbing infrastructure exists. This was a great, short hike.
Where
The Beehive Trail is located in Acadia National Park in Maine. It is an easy trailhead to get to from the road, and the route is very heavily trafficked, so finding lots of cars near the trailhead is common unless you go very early.
Logistics
There were no real logistical challenges to getting to this hike, however I chose to do this hike at sunrise to avoid the rush of people.
Hiking
This is a unique hike, especially if you are new to rock scrambling or have never done a via ferrata style hike. This is a hike where you will use all “fours”climbing your way up the side of the “mountain”. The hike is a fun challenge and is pretty easy overall, assuming you are in decent shape. At the end, you are on a bald and have great views of the surrounding area.
